Danish band. Their songs were concise, they were filled with jangly guitars and/or simple keyboards, and most importantly, they were just pure, innocent fun. They sound like they don't take much seriously, singing about things like being a cat, playing air guitar, procrastination and even the Quirky Girl Crafter.

The Gravy Train may have only released three and a half singles (one was a split flexi, you see), but they were certainly no strangers to the flourishing UK cassette scene of the early '90s. It looks like there were just as many songs given to such great compilations, like "Positively Teenage!!?", "C92" and "Teeny Poppers", as there were on their own...
The Driscolls were one of the better bands of the fertile late '80s/early '90s UK indiepop scene, with a handful of singles on Restless and Teatime Records and even a Woosh flexi. Sure, their records don't exactly fetch a handsome price amongst record collectors, but their music - a perfect hybrid of '60s mod and jangly indiepop - is definitely priceless.
In mid-2010, the Yellow Melodies released their third full-length album, "New Identities", on the band's own Discos Imprescindibles label. This new one is a compilation of singles and rarities. All songs written by The Yellow Melodies, except track 2 by R.E.M., track 6 by The Beatles, track 8 by Massiel, track 9 by Suede, track 17 by R.E.M., track 19 by...
The late '80s saw an abundance of jangly pop bands across the UK, and there were many, many wonderful releases to take in. Near the top of the heap sat this wee empire from Newcastle called Woosh (who booked gigs and did a fanzine, in addition to the label), who released ten 7"s - most of them flexis - in 1988-1989.
The album is chock full of short and catchy songs and songlets that bring to mind the heyday of Elephant 6 (also a collective) from bands like Olivia Tremor Control, Chocolate USA and the Marbles. Hailing from Kentucky, it's likely they would've been a welcome addition to that family back in the '90s.
Unlikely Friends is somewhat a misnomer, as it is a group of actual friends from the Seattle indiepop scene. Dave Crane from Boat and Charles Bert from Math & Physics Club decided that they had too many song ideas laying around and wanted an outlet for them outside of their primary bands. I was recruited on drums, and Unlikely Friends was born!
NEW recordings from Verna (with help from some friends). These songs naturally have a much-improved sound quality, yet they still sound like songs she would've written twenty years ago. Vocals, guitars, strings and even flutes are layered upon each other. These 5 songs only prove that Verna Brock should be up in the same revered class of indiepop...
Young Tokyo band had only been together a couple months when they recorded these songs. 5 months old as of their debut EP's release date. They are not perfect - they are still rough around the edges. But they have a youthful energy that's exciting. It seems Tiger Trap (with boy vocals), with their wonderful guitar melodies laid over catchy pop songs and...

Of Gothenburg, Sweden. These 4 songs that comprise their debut release just swept us off our feet on first listen, and they never get old. From Bordeaux. Over the last 15 or so years, the duo of Pascale & Michaël have evolved from a simple indiepop band to something more encompassing of their myriad influences, with nods to Stereolab, Young Marble Giants and Astrud Gilberto surfacing on their fourth full-length album.

Caramel Snow is the work of one fellow named Michael, and his music reminds me of a combination of two other one-man projects : Simple Carnival and (early) Orange Cake Mix. Sixteen minutes of easy-going pop that sounds like it could be demos from early '70s-era Harry Nilsson... Come Back To Vegas Aniline Orange Crush Jacquie Star Limited Edition
Nar were more than just your average punk band, and they released a bunch of singles and a split lp via tiny Californian labels such as Yakamashi, Very Small and Scott's own Secret Center, gaining a bit of notoriety in their hometown of Sacramento, but never really achieving any quantifiable success.
Frank Boscoe may have started his tenure in the world of indiepop with Wimp Factor 14, but he truly found his footing during the mid '90s with the consistently-stellar Vehicle Flips. That band released a trio of excellent albums on Harriet and Magic Marker Records, but it was on their singles where you could find the real hidden gems; this disc collects...
After a single on Cloudberry and a split 7" with Honeyheads on Dufflecoat, this group from Hamburg released their debut LP. Though only 10 songs long, this album is quite multi-faceted, going from the driving and melodic "The Lane" and "Lover Not A Fighter" to the playful "Can't Treat Me Right" and gentle "Mostly Harmless", which nicks the chorus from an...
First there was the Skywriters, then the Snow Fairies, and then came Scary Monster to reign supreme over the Philadelphia indiepop scene. Where the first two bands had a predominately twee sound, Scary Monster were a bit more mature.
They released a cd on the Brentwood Estates label, a 7" on Galaxy Train Rcds of Japan, and also appeared on a handful of comps on Popgun, Shelflife and Blackbean. This cd collects all of those songs (+ bonus live - never recorded). They were twee-pop (boy/girl vocals, jangly guitars and endearing songs about love and loss). After the group, most of the...

Verna Brock made some of the sweetest indiepop of the '90s; you probably heard her voice in Holiday Flyer or Rocketship, but Beanpole was her solo project, consisting of herself and her four-track. Toss + Turn A ECOUTER
This is one of those records that's filled with all sorts of instruments (and non-instruments) and ideas, bringing to mind the Galactic Heroes, early Boat and Elephant 6's more coherent moments. A colorful album, indeed!

After teasing us with a split 7" on 555 Recordings a few years back, Birds Of California have finally given us a full album! 2nd release from this group of Greeks from Athens, after their debut 7" on Manic Pop left off: really catchy, but slightly off-kilter indie rock. Since the early '90s, there have been countless bands following in My Bloody Valentine's deep footprints. It's duo of Per Ole Bratset and Hilarie Sidney, their sound is quite similar to vintage Apples In Stereo (which I'd say even if Hilarie wasn't an original member of that band!), playing fuzzy pop songs with memorable melodies that will stick with you long after the record is over.

Anthony Rochester has been making solo recordings for over a decade, and his fourth album finds him in top form! Goblin Universe released a pair of great records during their brief lifetime in 2000/2001: a rare self-released cd-r and a 7" co-released between their own Grande Barbe label and the Rocket Number Nine label. This disc collects both of those, and adds an extra comp track and two previously unreleased ones, as well!

A regular in the early/mid '90s UK cassette scene, Peru appeared on nearly a dozen tape comps, as well as two split cassettes and a split 7". This disc collects sixteen of their best songs with all but one of them appearing on cd for the first time.
