The Science Of Words are a two-piece guitar band whose debut single is a two-track offering. The A-Side, ‘In A Space’ is a rip-roaring ‘Instrumental With Words’ and is based around Corinne Plant’s melodic guitar lines. The lead guitar brings to mind Man Or Astro-Man?, The Ventures and Hank Marvin’s work in The Shadows - but the classically influenced phrasing gives the band a unique sound. Ex-Rosehips guitarist, Pete Bowers (Horowitz & The Total Rejection) provides the gritty rhythm guitars, which power the track along with energy and verve.
The B-Side is a complete contrast. Having crash landed on a strange and distant planet, ‘In A Space Universe Mix’ is the band’s distress signal. It’s 8 minutes 20 seconds of ghostly atmospheres, NASA samples and an eerie deconstruction of the A-Side - the vibrations from which have been travelling through the cosmos for eternity, before finally been captured on disc. It’s claustrophobic and foreboding... so dim the lights and prepare to be transported to a place where echoes dominate and disembodied voices pull you into the abyss. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Science Of Words really are floating in space.
‘In A Space’ is pressed on futuristic Compact Disc, housed in a full colour wrap around 7” vinyl sleeve and includes two free postcard sized art prints, designed by the band's secret third member on this release - Jon Aldersea. The record is limited to 200 copies and is released by Next Phase : Normal Records (NPN 6)
